POPSGM says Chevy Volt is on track for 2010 I sure hope they can pull this off. The introduction of a rechargeable electric car has the potential to be a game changer for our economy and global dynamics. I would imagine that the response to this in the market would dwarf that received thus far by hybrids. We are talking about truly revolutionizing one of the most important industries in the world. And don't forget the ripple effect this will have by creating the need to make enormous investments in our national electricity grid.

POPSWhy I Love Clipmarks So, i didn't write this, I read it. It was posted by Clipmarks user onlinedesign in the "Why I Use Clipmarks" section of her profile. You can click the source link to visit her page. I wanted to clip this because it really moved me. It is exactly what i hope Clipmarks can provide for people. Knowing that we have accomplished this for some people gives me great pride and satisfaction. I could never adequately convey how impressed, inspired and grateful i am for the collective contributions of the people who share the content, thoughts, opinion, passion and perspective that gets mixed together here on clipmarks.com. I think it's truly remarkable.

POPSObama's tire pressure remark - fact vs fiction McCain has responded to Obama's suggestion that we better maintain our cars in ways that promote fuel efficiency with childish (yet somehow effective) criticism. The amazing thing these days is that facts don't seem to matter. McCain is jumping on Obama with lies and accusations that, in my opinion, discredit his own reputation for running clean, dignified campaigns.

POPSBloomberg calls for a new New Deal A great piece by Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg. I think this man is one of the country's greatest assets - i sure hope we find a way to empower him. He has, in my opinion, been a great mayor for new york city.

POPSA compromise? Drilling for alternative energy tax credits Seems like an interesting possibility here. Give the Republicans what they want (more drilling) in exchange for what the Democrats want (extension of tax credits for wind, solar, etc.). You would think that this combination would show that the U.S. government is truly committed to doing whatever it takes to bring down our reliance on foreign oil.

POPSThe Energy Technology Revolution Tom Friedman is so right (shocker) about this. I find it to be insane that this is not THE ISSUE of the presidential election. T. Boone Pickens gets it. Tom Friedman gets it. Europe and Asia seem to get it. When will Washington get it???

POPSThe market for plug-in cars is fast approaching Very exciting stuff. This is no longer the talk of what's ifs and hypotheticals...it's reality and it's coming soon. In my opinion, the introduction of plug-in cars will be a major catalyst for the development of additional sources of energy - including more wind and solar generated. It will also be the tipping point for allocating the massive resources needed to upgrade our nation's power grid.

POPSWhite House schizophrenia over global warming Very interesting clip that highlights to tension within the Bush administration. There seems to be a strong division between those who see reality and those who see whatever the oil companies want them to see. Let's pray that our next president will err on the side of humanity.

POPSUnited States sends diplomat to meet with Iranian official Wow - strict orders not to engage in one-on-one discussions aside - this seems to be a HUGE deal. Should something positive develop here, in addition to hopefully avoiding another military conflict, it would likely send oil prices significantly lower. Curious what kind of implications this will have on the election. My first thought is that it helps Obama because he's been such an advocate of dialog, but my gut tells me i must be missing something there because it's highly unlikely that the Bush administration would do something so seemingly helpful to Obama.

POPSMajor solar initiative in California This is a huge deal - highlighting the opportunity for utilities to embrace alternative sources of energy (such as solar and wind) to meet their customer's energy needs. “By harnessing the clean, renewable energy of the sun that is abundant in California, these innovative solar projects are helping to meet our long-term energy and climate change goals,” Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said. “These projects are evidence that California’s ingenuity is spurring a clean tech boom that will bring companies and investment dollars to California while reducing the state's carbon footprint.” Why in the world don't words like that come from our President??? All he wants to talk about is drilling for more oil!

POPSSEC investigating false rumors on Wall Street This would really be something. Some of the organizations being investigated are enormous. It's really incredible how ugly thing on Wall Street are these days. If it is proven that Bear Sterns was taken down - at least partially - by the spreading of false rumors, it would be a devastating blow to the credibility of our financial markets.

POPSIsrael and Palestians close to peace deal? It's hard not to be skeptical about this type of thing, but it sure would be amazing to see Israel and some of their neighbors find a peaceful way to co-exist. The implications for the world seem enormously beneficial.

POPSNow I feel better... Man, it's actually come to this. "Reassuring" statements that the government doesn't expect Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to fail. My only hope for the stock market is that the best buying opportunities come when there is absolutely no good news - seems like that's about it right now.
5
POPSThe Pickens Plan Could this man single-handedly lift the United States out its dependence on oil and inspire the type of commitment and innovation needed to make it happen? I know that sounds crazy, but this type of high profile exposure is absolutely invaluable to the birth of a new industry. Like going to the moon in the 60s, it's time to devote whatever resources are needed to enter the alternative energy era.

POPSGeneral Motors builds massive rooftop solar array This is the type of high profile event that could represent a tipping point. Someday, i imagine that all rooftops will be solar powered - and many cars too for that matter - and this type of announcement could be looked at as a catalyst for many more companies to get in the game. Unfortunately, the U.S. government isn't being nearly as supportive of wind and solar as European and Asian governments - but again, that's something that will hopefully change after the upcoming election.

POPSSolar powered Prius!! Now this is exciting news! This type of innovation is exactly what the world needs to help us lose our dependency on oil. It is also the type of progress that i believe will spur the economy out of its very nasty funk.
6
POPSBiofuels cause spike in food prices - duh! I currently think the U.S. is doing it all wrong. The Bush administration is very supportive of biofuels and drilling for oil, but they're not giving nearly enough support to wind and solar. Hopefully with a new President in a few months will come a much more effective energy policy.

POPSTom Friedman calls for an "energy internet" Once again, Tom Friedman calls it like it is. This is a smart piece that i recommend everyone read. Despite a lot talk about green energy, i'm still shocked that the U.S. government isn't more focused on it and committed to aiding its development. I guess we can only hope that China and Europe lead the way.

POPSFacebook valuation cut 75%? Obviously i have no idea if this is true, but if Facebook is now being valued at $3-4B, how does Microsoft feel about investing at a $15B valuation?
10
POPSAnderson Cooper on Robert Mugabe A well said, strong statement by Anderson Cooper. It will be very interesting to see how long the world sits back while this brutal violence continues to be used to thwart democracy. This type of behavior cannot be tolerated.
11
POPSBush's attempt to keep us hooked on oil Man, Tom Friedman just nails it. This is exactly what the Bush administration is trying to do and it scares the heck out of me. I strongly suggest that you click the source link to read the entire article.

POPSWhy we need high oil prices I know this sounds crazy, but i honestly believe that high oil prices in the short term (1-5 years) is a very good thing if it forces us to find alternatives. I am definitely concerned that if oil prices drop temporarily, the momentum behind alternatives such as wind and solar will die off - leaving us exactly where we are today - way too dependent on oil and way to harmful to our environment.

POPSTop law firm pulls "hottest lawyer" contest from company blog This is funny. For those who don't know, Skadden is a MAJOR law firm in new york city. Apparently they were blogging about their annual "hottest lawyer at the firm" contest and a bunch of higher ups got pissed off. I'm so curious to know who won. Anyone with a photo, please share :)

POPSFilling up your car with ELECTRICITY!! When we can fill up our cars with electricity instead of gasoline - and generate electricity through wind and solar power - and transmit more electricity over the grid - we will have truly changed global dynamics. The amazing thing is that it may not be more than a few years away! Any additional help we can get from Washington will make a huge difference. I hope to see this be a central issue in the upcoming election.

POPSClipmarks now available for Firefox 3 Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that we released a new version of clipmarks (version 3.5) that supports the just-released Firefox3. We made some real nice improvements to the orange lines so they should more accurately outline elements on the page to clip. If you don't have the latest version of clipmarks installed, you can get it here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1407. There's a review section on that page, so if you have anything nice to say, don't hesitate :) FYI...we're getting loads of new clippers today, so if you get a chance, check out the newest clips section and welcome some new users with some pops and comments.

POPSFast moving to a new India Clipped from an interesting article in the NY Times about Mukesh D. Ambani, the most powerful business person in India. I think it 's fascinating and exciting to see how a connected, exposed world (largely due to the Internet) is leading to massive changes in customs and practices that have lasted centuries. The combination on the Internet and alternative energy should make the 21st century prove to be a bridge between the old and the new.

POPSBuy stocks on bad employment report?? Interesting. I hope this guy is right. He's saying that the market's interpretation of the employment report was wrong. I would assume that regardless of the employment report, the big spike in oil must have spooked the market today.

POPSA $45T Clean Energy Revolution Oh yeah....this is huge! Bigger than the internet and telecommunications revolution...the energy revolution seems poised to be the defining innovation of this century. In addition to creating a much more stable source of energy and helping the environment, the opportunity for investment and new jobs makes this the most exciting opportunity i've ever seen.

POPS The social web - power to the people!!! Oh yes, a truly revolutionary web we are weaving. My hat is off to people in places such as Egypt who brave the potentially dire consequences in order to spread the truth. Their words will hopefully lead to more democratic, free societies in places that have for so long kept their people bottled up.

POPSScary statistics for Obama supporters Seems to me that the point of having Superdelegates was to make the wisest strategic decision if the primaries didn't result in a clear winner. Speaking objectively, you would have to think these statistics are weighing heavily on the minds of those in support of Obama.

POPSRead this clip and try not to say WTF!! I mean, are you kidding me!? Rachel Ray and Dunkin Donuts were offering "symbolic support for Muslim extremism and terrorism" because she was wearing a black and white scarf. After this one, it's going to take a whole to shock me :) Honestly, i just tagged this clip dunkin donuts, rachel ray and terrorism - WTF indeed!!

POPSVideo of Maxine Waters threatening to socialize oil What an insane, stupid comment. I just can't believe she said this...scary!! Thanks to {{willhelm}} for posting the original clip about this here http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/F1762764-9B5B-4F50-9C31-20602A85332C/. wanted to clip the actual video because i honestly couldn't believe it until i saw it.
